Ás Styrktarfélag is a public-benefit organization that provides services for people with disabilities and has, over the years, established extensive operations. The association has enjoyed considerable goodwill, and individuals, nonprofit organizations, and companies have all played a significant role in supporting its growth.

Today, Ás provides services to more than 300 people in the areas of housing, day services, and employment. The organization employs more than 400 staff members across nearly 300 full-time equivalent positions.

The association enters into service agreements with municipalities that provide funding for its operations. Currently, valid agreements are in place with Reykjavík, Kópavogur, Hafnarfjörður, Mosfellsbær, Seltjarnarnes, and Garðabær.

It is important for the association to generate its own income, which can be used for innovation and projects. In this way, the organization can continue to support development within the sector through funds raised from donations by companies and sponsors, as well as membership fees from members.

Ás works closely with the leading service providers and advocacy organizations in the field. The association is a member of National Association of Intellectual Disabilities (Þroskahjálp), the Disabled People’s Organization of Iceland (Öryrkjabandalag Íslands), and Hlutverk, an organization focused on employment and vocational training.
