Öfgar is a non-profit organization that fights against gender-based violence. The organization was founded by women who are all survivors of gender-based violence. We are a radical group, hence the name “Öfgar'' which means radical/extreme. We use radical methods against deep-rooted problems in our society.  We are demanding change in our society and in the way people think. We are making people realize that we have zero tolerance for violence, rape culture, codependency with abusers or the patriarchy.

We use social media to raise awareness and address problems regarding gender-based violence in our society as well as writing articles, holding lectures, masterclasses, writing legislative amendments for committees of the Parliament, meeting with parliament members, companies CEO’s, the media and members of the police force. We also produced an educational podcast called "Út í Öfgar" which about the justice system in Iceland where we interviewed survivors of sexual abuse, deputy district attorney, members from the police, member from the parliament, activists and spokeswoman from the emergency reception for survivors of sexual abuse. We work closely with survivors of gender-based violence and try to let their voices be heard in our society.
