Afstaða is an organization working for reform in the prison system and supporting individuals who in any way are connected to it. Afstaða provides social support and peer-based counseling.

We emphasize creating real opportunities for accountability, restoration, and successful reintegration into society. Our work is grounded in the lived experiences of those who know the system firsthand, and we influence policy through advocacy, education, and active dialogue with authorities.

Afstaða regularly visits prisons, provides counseling and support, offers educational outreach, and works against stigma and social isolation affecting those connected to the justice system.

We believe that meaningful change can only happen through compassion, hope, and access to support – and that no one should be left behind, no matter their past.
