The Icelandic Adoption Society is the only adoption organization in Iceland and is accredited by the Ministry of Justice in Iceland to mediate adoptions from overseas. The IAS is a non-profit organization, founded in 1978 and its tasks are both important and diverse.

The main goal of IAS is to assist those who wish to adopt children of foreign origin and always so that the interests of the child are paramount. The association promotes the welfare of adoptive families through various types of education, support and social activities. The IAS also has the interests of adult adoptees at heart and we want to see more understanding and support at all stages, i.e. during the adoption process, post adoption and after adoptees become adults. This understanding needs to be accompanied by funding, but slowly and steadily cuts are being made in this important area.

Adoption is a lifelong beautiful process that should be taken well care of as it is very delicate.
