The Icelandic League against Rheumatism (Gigtarfélag Íslands) is a umbrella organisation for people with different kinds of rheumatic and musculoskeletal diseases. The main goal is to improve quality of life of our members, fight for more effective treatment and support with funding scientific research in rheumatology. The League runs a center in Reykjavik, the capital of Iceland, where people find rehabilitation, information and guidance. Gigtarfélag Íslands was founded in 1976 and has approximately 4.600 members in six regional branches. Within the League, there are several groups based upon special diagnoses and age, where patients give support and information in peergroups. The charity's website is www.gigt.is.
