Icelandic Society for Asthma and Allergies was founded in 1974 to improve the health and well-being of people with asthma and allergies and to work with interestgroups, the government and the state to improve the air quality in Iceland. Located in Síðumúla 6, 108 Reykjavík open Mondays from 9-15. The Society provides advocacy and support for its members on issues relating to health, education and policy making.
The Society´s fund supports research and education of health professionals in their related work. AO is dedicated to education of its members and others working in the field of asthma and allergie, and this education is driven by doctors, and qualified indviduals. Examples are cooking course for personell working in the food industry, kindergarden and schools.
The Society is associated with the Icelandic Societies of TB and Chest patients, the Oranisation of Disaabled in Iceland (OBI), the Scandinavian Societies of patients with Asthma and Allergies along with The European Federaton of Allergy and Airways diseases Patients association (EFA) . The Society´s annual subscription for 2019 is 3000 iskr for adults, 1500 iskr for children, pensioners and disabled members. www.ao.is.
